What Snoei does

For security reasons, browsers may not read other sites for you. So Snoei requests the page through its own server, reads it without running scripts and sends you only the result: tables, links, image addresses, a sitemap, the headers or an SEO overview. Your files and downloads are then made in your own browser.

What Snoei refuses

Snoei does not read pages behind a login, internal or private addresses, or pages that robots.txt shields. It never collects email addresses or phone numbers and does not crawl whole sites: it starts from one page or a short list, and only knocks on the links, language versions and redirects you ask it to check, with a fixed limit. Reading a sitemap is its only look at a whole site.

Limits

Snoei waits at most 10 seconds for a site, reads at most 5 MB per page, follows at most 5 redirects and checks at most 100 links per page, four at a time. A pace applies per visitor and per site, so nobody is overloaded.

The house rules

• Public only, entered by you. Snoei only reads pages that anyone can see without logging in, and only the address you enter. It skips login pages.
• No email addresses or phone numbers. Snoei refuses to collect them. Links to mailto: and tel: are only counted, never shown or exported.
• Copyright stays. Texts, tables and images belong to whoever made them. Use them to check or to quote with a source, not to copy.
• One page at a time. No crawling of whole sites. Snoei reads what you give, at most checks the links or language versions of that one page, follows robots.txt and keeps the pace low.
